What should the traveler take from this scenario?
Korean tourist visa flight requirements vary by diplomatic mission. Some accept a rebookable reservation; others ask for an e ticket. Check the exact C-3-9 checklist.
For a South Korea tourist visa, the flight document can vary depending on the Korean embassy or consulate handling your application.
Some Korean missions accept a flight reservation or rebookable itinerary.
Others explicitly ask for a confirmed round trip air ticket containing an e ticket number.
That difference is too important to hide behind a generic "Korea visa dummy ticket" article.
Example 1: Korea's embassy in Canada
The Korean Embassy in Canada asks C-3-9 tourist visa applicants for a flight itinerary issued by a travel agency or airline.
Its guidance says applicants should either have tickets or submit a flight reservation that can be rebooked.
It also says an online captured flight schedule is not acceptable.
This creates a clear distinction:
a real reservation can be acceptable; a screenshot of flight availability is not the same thing.
Example 2: Korea's embassy in Qatar
The Korean Embassy in Qatar publishes a stricter document list for certain C-3-9 applicants.
It asks for a:
confirmed round trip air ticket
and says the document must include:
- e ticket number;
- booking reference.
A temporary reservation without ticket issuance would not match that wording.
Example 3: Korea's San Francisco consulate
The Korean Consulate General in San Francisco asks C-3-9 applicants for a round trip flight ticket that contains the flight itinerary and passenger name.
Again, this is stronger wording than "reservation."
What does this mean for your application?
Do not search only:
“Does Korea need a flight reservation?”
Search:
“What does the Korean embassy or consulate handling my C-3-9 application require?”
Your nationality, legal residence and filing location determine which mission handles the case.
The local checklist is the document you need to satisfy.
What information should be visible?
Whether the mission asks for an itinerary, reservation or ticket, check for:
- passenger name;
- arrival in Korea;
- departure from Korea;
- travel dates;
- airline;
- flight number;
- booking reference;
- e ticket number where explicitly required.
The accommodation dates and travel plan should support the same stay.
Is a flight search screenshot enough?
At least one Korean embassy explicitly says no.
The Korean Embassy in Canada states that an online captured flight schedule is not acceptable for the C-3-9 application described on its site.
A flight search shows availability.
A reservation shows that a booking has been created.
Those are different documents.
Should you buy the ticket before applying?
There is no single answer for every Korean mission.
If your checklist accepts a rebookable reservation, you may not need to commit to a nonrefundable fare.
If it requires an e ticket number or confirmed air ticket, then actual ticketing may be required.
Do not rely on a blog written for applicants in another country.
Can Avionward be used for a Korea visa?
Only where the checklist asks for a reservation or itinerary compatible with a temporary reservation.
Avionward provides temporary flight reservations with a booking reference and PDF itinerary.
It does not issue a paid airline e ticket.
So:
- reservation requested: Avionward may fit;
- e ticket number explicitly required: Avionward's temporary reservation is not the same document.
That is the accurate distinction.
What about round trip vs open jaw travel?
If the mission asks for a round trip itinerary, make sure the document clearly shows arrival and departure.
An open jaw route may still describe a complete journey, but the exact checklist wording controls.
Example:
Istanbul → Seoul
then:
Busan → Istanbul
can represent a complete visit, but if your mission expects a conventional round trip ticket format, confirm before relying on a different structure.
Korea visa checklist before ordering a flight document
- Find the Korean diplomatic mission responsible for your application.
- Open the current C-3-9 document page.
- Identify whether it says itinerary, reservation, ticket or e ticket.
- Check whether a booking reference is required.
- Check whether an e ticket number is required.
- Match the flight dates with your hotel and travel plan.
- Do not submit a search screenshot if the mission asks for a reservation.
Bottom line
There is no single South Korea tourist visa flight-document rule that can be copied across every country.
Some Korean missions accept reservations. Others ask for issued round trip tickets.
Use the checklist of the mission handling your application, and choose a reservation service only when that checklist actually permits a reservation.
