What should the traveler take from this scenario?
Flying to the Philippines one way? Return or onward ticket requirements can apply depending on your entry category. Get a temporary reservation from Avionward where appropriate.
The Philippines uses return or onward ticket requirements in multiple visitor-entry categories.
That means one way travelers should check the exact rule applying to their nationality and admission status before flying.
Where a temporary reservation is appropriate, Avionward starts from $12.

Official Philippine rules use return/onward ticket language
Philippine Bureau of Immigration rules for several visa-free visitor categories explicitly require a:
return or onward ticket to the next country of destination.
For example, current rules for certain Indian visa-free visitors require a valid passport, qualifying visa/residence status where relevant, and a return or onward ticket.
Current 2026 provisions for eligible Chinese nationals similarly include return/onward travel.
The exact scheme matters.
Do you have to fly home?
No, not when the applicable rule accepts onward travel.
Your next booking can take you to another country.
Example:
Manila → Bangkok
can be an onward journey if you are legally able to enter Thailand.
What should the booking show?
- passenger name;
- departure from the Philippines;
- next destination;
- date;
- airline;
- flight number;
- booking reference.
Why Avionward

Check your exact admission category
Do not assume one Philippine rule applies to every passport.
The Bureau of Immigration publishes separate rules for different visitor privileges.
Paid ticket required?
If the immigration rule or airline check requires issued ticketing, buy the paid ticket.
