Taiwan is a clear example
Taiwan's visa-exemption rules can require:
- return or onward air/sea travel;
- departure within the permitted stay;
- visa for the next destination where required.
The traveler is visa exempt, but onward travel can still be part of the entry conditions.
Thailand is another example
Thailand's 2026 tourist visa-exemption framework includes onward-travel requirements in current embassy guidance.

Singapore can ask visa-free visitors too

and still be asked for onward travel.
